A quarter of a century… what have I learned?

Man… Where do I start? well about two weeks ago today I turned the BIG 25 in the city of Palm Springs.  I was in serious need of a quick getaway with a few of my best girlfriends and a Zen like environment. The days approaching my birthday… my 25th BIRTHDAY!! I was freaking out bit. Now I know this age really isn’t as daunting as I’ve made it out to be all of the years coming toward it but it’s still a pretty big step all the same. Let’s take it back a bit shall we. Young (er) Shallon feared growing up for some reason… a few reasons actually.

She feared change, growth, independence, and separation; thinking & seeing  growing up as a negative next step in life. All she saw was what would be lost and NOT all that would be gained. Now as a spiffy twenty-five year old, I look back at that girl I once was and I appreciate her. I appreciate her for having those doubts and fears because without them I wouldn’t have set out to look for better. I figured out what I wanted and what worked for me in this life. I began to envision the woman I wanted to be and the life I wanted to live.

As I’ve gotten older, I have been repairing all that was in need of a little TLC. Confidence, awareness, independence, individuality, & compassion are just a few of the qualities I have gained on this quarter of a century journey. Feeling more certain and focused about every day and every decision I make… it’s as if I’m finally AWAKE. That little girl I use to be (& still resemble in some ways) has given me the courage to grow, in all the ways it is possible to do so.

As a 25 year old woman, speaking to you today; I can truly say I had NO clue I’d be where I am today. I am happy, positive, and SO excited for this year and all the coming years. I know this journey will be a rollercoaster for sure and I am looking forward to making this the best ride yet. I have grown and I am not afraid of it, I am opening my arms up wide and rather, embracing it.
